My Visit to

Japanese Garden Bristol

A Slice of Japan in the City

If you love Japan as much as I do, the Japanese Garden Bristol is a must-visit. I recently spent a lovely afternoon there and was honestly blown away by how beautiful and authentic it felt. It’s like stepping into a peaceful little world waiting to be explored.

The garden’s clever design guides you from one space to the next, creating a sense of discovery that makes the whole area feel much larger and more secluded than you’d expect. Each “garden room” offers its own vibe — from quiet Zen corners to lively spots full of rare maples and gorgeous trailing wisteria.

We were given time to explore the garden first, wandering through the different sections and soaking it all in. When it was time for the Afternoon Tea session, the tea was brought out in a lovely little corner that felt perfectly private, even though there were other guests around. It was a wonderful way to relax and really feel tucked away from the outside world.

The cream tea itself was delicious, and the cute origami fish that came with it was such a thoughtful and charming touch!

If you’re into plants, you’ll appreciate the impressive variety here — bonsai trees, rare maples, mossy patches, and a dry stone garden that adds a real Zen vibe. Little Buddha statues, koinobori flying fish and sculptures dotted around make it feel even more special.

Visiting Japanese Garden Bristol was a real joy and a peaceful escape from the city buzz. It’s a perfect spot to unwind, enjoy nature, and get a real feel for Japanese garden design — right here in Bristol. I can't wait to visit in autumn to see the garden lit up at night and in full autumn colours!
